A favorite place for me to visit in Dublin was St Patrick’s Cathedral. I love seeing Churches and different architectural styles and looking around at all the intricate details that make each Church unique. Outside of the Cathedral there is also a nice green space to just sit and enjoy. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is Ireland’s largest Cathedral and it is packed with history. As you walk along the interior of the Cathedral you’ll be able to see art, monuments and read about the history that surrounds St Patrick’s. The architectural style is Gothic and the Cathedral dates back over 800 years.
The Cathedral is named after Ireland’s Patron Saint, St. Patrick. Sometime around 450 A.D. St. Patrick is said to have baptized people into Christianity at this site. The Church has a timeline on their website where you can learn all about the history of the Church and many of the monuments within its walls. See link below.
As you enter the Cathedral and look up you’ll see the beautiful ribbed vaulting.
There are monuments throughout the Cathedral, from plaques and marble statues to stained glass windows.
The stained glass windows throughout the Cathedral are colorful, intricate and exquisite.
There is an admission fee when visiting the Cathedral as an attraction. According to the Cathedral’s website, this fee goes toward the upkeep of the Cathedral. There is no fee for worship at the services.
If you find yourself able to visit it is well worth the time!
