A Family Tradition – Happy Birthday Jesus!

Our family has a lot of traditions around the Christmas season. One tradition is decorating our own stockings every year. I pick up some plain stockings along with felt, glitter, ribbon and whatever else I can find and we decorate and make a beautiful mess. Another tradition is waking up and making quiche on Christmas morning. This started when my husband and I would visit his Nana at Christmas. There was always quiche in the morning and I just loved it! Now we make it in our own home for Christmas morning breakfast each year. We have other traditions as well. Before we open our gifts we sit together as a family and read the Christmas story from the Bible. We decorate rolled sugar cookies together. All of our traditions are special and fun for us.

However, we sometimes can’t do all of our traditions. We move every 2 to 3 years and we aren’t always home at Christmas. Sometimes we don’t have our own decorations where we are living at the time. One of the traditions that we make sure to fit in wherever we are is a Birthday Cake on Christmas day. We make it whether we are traveling and visiting family at Christmas or in our own home. My kids have always enjoyed singing Happy Birthday Jesus. It started when they were all little and now that I have teens they still expect and enjoy this tradition. I love it because it reminds us again of the focus of the day. It is easy to get caught up in the holiday and being “too busy”. This tradition reminds us of who we are celebrating.

Merry Christmas! I hope you are able to celebrate the season with your own traditions wherever you may be!
