Decorating Pumpkin Spice Cookies

As I type today it is about 78 degrees in Taipei. This is a welcome change from the mid to high nineties just a couple short weeks ago. I do find myself missing home this time of year. One of my favorite flavors around this time of year is Pumpkin Spice. It reminds me of home and cooler weather and the trees starting to show off their colorful leaves. I may not have all the same things here as when I am home but I do enjoy making my own fall treats. Pumpkin Spice is always on my list! What’s better than decorating pumpkin spice cookies? Eating them. Sharing them with others is fun too.

This week I decorated some homemade pumpkin spice cookies. With my extra pumpkin puree I also enjoyed a nice pumpkin spice latte. Mmmmm …the flavors of Fall.

I used a royal icing to decorate and the first step was to color some of it orange. Next I separated the orange frosting into two bowls so I could add a little water at a time for the right decorating consistency. I wanted to have one that was a little thicker consistency for outlining and another that was a flood consistency for filling in the pumpkin design. The first couple of cookies were a bit of trial and error until I liked the way my outline looked. No worries though, my kids were more than happy to eat the few that didn’t look as good to help me out. Once I had my outline drawn on the cookies I filled in the orange.

I also made up a little green frosting for the stems, vines and leaves. I used a Wilton 47 tip for the stems, a Wilton 3 tip for the vines and Ateco 68 for the leaves. Enjoy the video below! Wherever you are I also hope you’re enjoying your favorite fall flavors!
