Paragliding at Wai’ao Beach in Taiwan

Taiwan is a beautiful island with some great beaches! At the end of summer my family went to the Wai’ao Beach to cool off in the ocean and enjoy some outdoor time. It is a lovely black sand beach in the NE part of Taiwan. It took us around an hour and 15 minutes or so to drive there from the Taipei area. One area of the beach is for surfing and boogie boarding and another area is for swimming. While there, my kids noticed an endless stream of paragliders floating down to the beach. We decided to check it out and come back the next time for paragliding.

Setting up the paragliding was an easy process. We went to a website which listed various activities in the Wai’ao area. Click here to see. On the day we went paragliding, we simply called the number and asked if we could come later that afternoon. They asked us how many people and let us know there was availability. They also told us we would need our ID to check in. The cost was 1200 NTD per person (cash) which is around $43 USD. It is tandem paragliding and once we checked in we were immediately helped with putting on the safety harnesses. I was surprised at how quickly we were ready and on our adventure, gliding peacefully down to the beach. They also provided a selfie stick so I was able to easily capture video on the way down.

We had driven directly to the paraglide area. Once we landed at the beach there was a van that we rode back up to the paraglide area to pick up our car. Since we were already at the Wai’ao beach we stayed for some ocean time. If you’re looking for a fun activity with family or friends then this is great! My teens absolutely loved it and I know it will be a lasting memory from their time here in Taiwan.
